Plank & Gable started small, near Crescent Beach in South Surrey, BC, out of a hands-on love for furniture restoration. Working with vintage solid wood pieces, sanding them back, repairing joints, learning what held up after decades of use, taught us more about how furniture should be built than any catalog ever could.
From restoration to original pieces
Restoring old furniture means you see exactly what survives and what doesn't. Cheap veneer delaminates. Poorly glued joints fail. But solid wood, even a hundred years old, can usually be brought back to life. That's the lesson we carried into building new, original furniture: build it the way the pieces that last were built.
Why local manufacturing matters
Building locally in Canada means we're not shipping furniture across an ocean, which cuts down on the fossil fuels and emissions involved in getting a piece from a factory to your bedroom. It also means shorter supply chains, closer quality control, and materials sourced from Canadian forests rather than overseas.
What "attainable heirloom" means to us
A lot of solid wood furniture is priced as a luxury item. We don't think it should be. Our goal with every nightstand and dresser we build is to make heirloom-quality construction, the kind of furniture that gets handed down instead of thrown out, genuinely affordable for everyday homes, not just showroom customers.
